Chapter One // Chapter Two // Chapter Three // Chapter Four // Chapter Five // Chapter Six
Gerard glances at Frank’s bunk as he gets up. The curtain is still pulled across, which means Frank was probably still asleep. He has to sort this thing out with Frank. He doesn’t think he could cope if Frank stops talking to him. He turns his attention to Ray’s bunk. He is still in there fast asleep as well. Gerard closes his eyes, breathing in deeply. He’d come so close to telling Frank everything yesterday. He’d nearly broken down and ruined the dream for the others. He has to stay strong, because what he wants doesn’t matter. Noise from the kitchen tells him someone is up and the inviting smell tells him they are making coffee. He hops off his bunk and heads downstairs.
There in the kitchen is Mikey. Gerard smiles, walking up behind him and resting his head on his little brother’s shoulder.
“Morning Gee,” Mikey says, kissing his brother on the forehead.
“Morning.” Gerard smiles back. “Well, just about,” he said says, nodding to the clock.
Mikey looks up at it. 11:45AM.
“Later than I realised,” he says, reaching for another two cups. “It won’t be long before we stop.”
Gerard slips his arms around Mikey’s waist and watches his brother make the coffee.
“Why are there three cups?” Gerard asks.
“I thought you could take one up to Frank,” Mikey answers.
Mikey turns around as he feels Gerard shift uncomfortably behind him. “Gee?”
Gerard smiles. “It’s a good idea. I just don’t know what I did.”
“You probably didn’t do anything,” Mikey replies, softly touching Gerard’s face and turns back to finish making the drinks.
Gerard rests his head on Mikey’s shoulder again, watching him work. He can’t help but smile at the role reversal going on here. Mikey always used to hang over his shoulder like this when they were younger.
“Here you go,” Mikey says, finishing up with a sprinkle of cinnamon. He stands there for a second, waiting for Gerard to move.
“You know if you want to take this up to Frank before it gets cold, you have to let go of me at some point.”
Mikey feels Gerard squeeze him once before letting go. “But I was enjoying cuddling you.”
Mikey smiles at Gerard. “That’s better.”
“What?”
“You’re smiling.” It has been a while since Mikey’s seen his brother really smile.
Gerard looks away and grabs the coffees. “Thanks,” Gerard says and heads back upstairs.
Coming around the corner, he can see Ray walking up.Gerard pauses for a second, considering if he can just climb in with Frank before Ray wakes fully. Ray looks straight at him so he puts the coffees on the floor by Frank’s bunk and walks over, sitting on the edge. He slides his hand into Ray’s.
“Morning.”
Ray yawns and yanks on Gerard’s hand, pulling him into the bunk. Gerard yelps as he’s pulled in. Ray straddles him, kissing Gerard softly.
“Ray,” Gerard whispers. “What about the others?”
“Well, from the smell of the coffee, Mikey’s downstairs and Bob’s in the bathroom. Frank, I presume is still asleep.” Ray leans forwards for a kiss again, moving slowly down the side of his neck. He hears Gerard sigh softly when Ray reaches the bit of his neck that Gerard likes kissed.
Gerard doesn’t resist, just lies there with his eyes closed, pretending that it’s someone else kissing his neck.
“Don’t worry, love. Soon they’ll all know about us anyway and we won’t have to hide,” Ray says nibbling at Gerard’s neck.
“Ray,.” Gerard’s voice comes out more breathy than he’d like. “I came up to talk to Frank.”
Ray sits back as best as he can. “Oh?”
“I brought up coffee and was going to talk to him.” Gerard hopes this won’t make Ray unhappy, that he brought coffee to someone other than him. Instead Ray smiles and kisses his cheek.
“That’s a good idea. You’d better give it to him before it gets cold.” Ray leans forward again, lips hovering over Gerard’s. “And tonight, when we’re alone in the hotel, I’m going to treat you so good you’ll never want to leave my arms.”
With that, Ray presses his lips against Gerard’s, sliding his tongue between their lips and tasting him. He takes Gerard’s shiver of revulsion as a shiver of pleasure and presses his crotch down harder.
Ray rolls off him, giving Gerard room to get up again. Gerard sits up and smiles, playing the part.
“Thank you,” Gerard says as he hops off the bunk, bending down to pick up his coffee. He smells it, taking one long drink and gathering his strength. Placing the cup back on the floor, he picks up Frank’s and opens the curtain. Frank is still fast asleep.
“Frank.”
Frank stirs, mumbling and rolling over. Gerard puts his hand on his shoulder and rolls him back.
“Time to get up. I brought coffee.”
“Go away Gee,” Frank says, yawning. He opens his eyes, realising how what he’s just said could be taken after yesterday and sits up. Gerard is looking down and away from him. Frank takes the coffee, sipping it.
“What time is it?” Frank asks.
“About midday,” Gerard says, looking up at Frank, who’s smiling apologetically at him. Frank sighs.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Frank asks.
“Tell you what?” Gerard asks, confused at what he didn‘t tell Frank.
“Gerard,” Frank says, putting his cup of coffee down on the small shelf. “You damn well know what I’m talking about.” Frank moves, sticking his head out of his bunk. He looks around, checking the coast is clear before continuing.
“About you and Ray,” Frank whispers.
Gerard’s mouth drops open and it feels like the floor has just opened up under him.
“I saw you both.” Frank leans forward and whispers with a grin on his face, “In the closet at the last venue.”
Gerard blinks. Frank saw them? He can’t breathe, it feels like he’s just been punched in the gut. Frank saw them and didn’t try to help him? Frank looks at Gerard when he gets no response.
“So come on then, tell me everything. How long have you two been fucking? Is it luuurrvvee?”
Gerard looks at Frank. He thinks Gerard wants this. He thinks that he’s in a relationship with Ray. The world spins slightly and he can’t breath. Gerard opens his mouth but the words get lost. He knows Ray is listening. He could tell Frank right now and this would all be over but he’s afraid of what Ray will do to Frank. Gerard swallows and smiles.
“About two months.” Gerard feels sick to his stomach at the lie. He’s such a coward. He had his chance to stop this from happening and he didn’t take it.
“Is it love? Or are you just fucking like bunnies?” Frank takes Gerard’s hand.
Gerard hears Ray sit up and waits as he climbs out of bed.
“Someone’s spilled the beans,” Rays says, tipping Gerard’s head up and kissing him softly in front of Frank. “I don’t know about him, but I love Gerard. Do you love me, baby?”
Gerard smiles, the lie heavy on tongue. “Yes, of course I do.”
Inside his head is screaming, No! Just say no. Tell him what’s going on, it’s Frank. He’ll understand. He’ll protect you.
Ray puts his hand at the back of Gerard’s neck, fingers stroking at his hairline. “We want to keep it a secret, Frank. Just for now. It’s why we haven’t told you. No one else knows. Not even Mikey.”
Frank looks at Gerard, who nods. “Please.”
“Okay. I’ll keep it a secret, I promise,” Frank says, squeezing Gerard’s hand.
Ray steps back as Bob comes out of the bathroom, naked as the day he was born. “About time motherfucker, I’ve been waiting ages to get in there.”
“It’s all yours,” a naked Bob says, walking back to his bunk to grab some clean clothes.
“Put it away, Bob!” Frank shouts from his bunk as Ray walks off to the bathroom. Bob chuckles and starts dressing.
“Hey,” Frank tugs on Gerard’s arm, pulling him into his bunk. “Come here.” He ruffles his hand through Gerard’s hair, wrapping his arms around Gerard and curling up against Gerard’s back.
“I’m happy for you, you know,” he says, fingers lightly caressing Gerard’s hair.
“I just didn’t understand why you were keeping it a secret. I do get it in a way. It’s nice to have something that’s just between the two of you. I guess I was just hurt that you didn’t come to me with this. I mean you’ve always said that you’re not gay and here you are in love with Ray. I just thought you’d come to me with something like this.”
Gerard’s not listening to a word that Frank’s saying. He’s lost everything. If Frank can believe this is real and not know that he’s in pain, then no one will. Even if he told them, they wouldn’t believe him now. Gerard wants to scream that it’s not love, Ray is raping him, but the words won‘t come out. All he can do is cry. Frank feels Gerard shift in his arms.
“It’s lovely. Honestly, Gee. You can’t choose who you fall in love with. Who gives a damn what sex they are.”
Frank sits up, suddenly aware that Gerard is crying. “What’s wrong?”
Gerard shakes his head, unable to speak.
“Gerard, please.” Frank brushes the hair off Gerard’s face, concern rising. “Tell me what’s wrong?”
Gerard sobs, curling up on the bunk. He can only manage one word, “Ray.”
Frank almost jumps out of the bunk. “I’ll get him.” He’s gone, knocking on the bathroom door before Gerard can protest.
