Chapter One // Chapter Two // Chapter Three // Chapter Four // Chapter Five // Chapter Six // Chapter Seven // Chapter Eight

Bob takes a bottle of Coke out of the fridge and looks over at Gerard and Mikey talking in a low voice about something.

“Either of you want a drink?” he asks, as he opens the bottle and grabs a glass from the cupboard. Mikey looks over and shakes his head.

“Yes please,” Gerard replies, smiling.

Bob takes down a second glass and starts to pour them a drink.

“Wait!” Frank shouts, springing out of his seat.

Bob watches Frank as he bounces across the short distance between the lounge and the kitchen.

“You can’t have coke without ice. It’s just not done!”

Bob waits while Frank gets out the ice cubes from the small icebox along with another glass. He watches as the cubes are split between the three glasses.

“You realize there’s no room for coke in those glasses now,” Bob teases as Frank throws the tray in the small basin to the sound of Mikey’s sigh. Frank grins at Mikey as he watches him pick the tray out of the sink. He fills it up and places it back in the freezer, scowling at Frank the entire time.

Frank turns his attention back to Bob, who’s pouring the coke into the glasses. Frank pokes him in the side, making him spill a little on the counter.

“Careful there, old man,” Frank chuckles, ducking as Bob picks out an ice cube and throws it at him.

“So. Room plans for tonight…” Bob tries to sound as casual as he can, handing a glass to Gerard.

“I get the single room!” Mikey interjects.

“You get the single room,” Bob and Gerard say in unison. Gerard giggles and grins at Bob.

“You and me tonight?” Bob asks.

Gerard smiles with hope at the thought of not having to share a room with Ray tonight.

“Aww, Bobby, don’t you wanna sleep with me tonight?” Frank asks, grinning cheekily.

Bob rolls his eyes.

“No thanks. I thought we’d gotten it straight that I’m not interested.” Bob smiles at Frank’s pretend hurt pout.

“Straight? Oh don’t go throwing around that ‘I’m straight’ shit again,” Frank laughs. “You’re as straight as Ray’s hair!”

“Who’s as straight as my hair?” Ray asks, walking over.

“Bob, apparently,” replies Mikey grinning.

Bob looks straight at Gerard, ignoring Ray’s laugh. “So you and me? We’ll let Frank and Ray spend the night together.” Bob winks making Gerard smile.

Ray speaks up, interrupting Gerard, just as he was about to accept the offer.

“I think I’d rather spend the night with Gerard. I mean you never know what you’re going to catch off Frank.”

“Hey! I am not a slut,” Frank shouts.

Ray ignores Frank and carries on talking. “So Gerard. How about it? Spend the night with me?”

Gerard looks at Bob, the chance of a night without the threat of being hurt by Ray vanishing in front of his eyes. He smiles and says, “Sure. I’ll stay with you, Ray.”

Bob sees the disappointment flash across Gerard’s face as he agrees. He knows Gerard doesn’t want to stay with Ray. Bob gives him a questioning look. Gerard’s response is to shake his head slightly. Bob sighs. He’s sure that there is something really wrong between them now.

“Perfect!” shouts Frank. He slaps Bob’s arse, making him jump. “You and me tonight, Bobby boy.” Frank walks towards the door, with a glass of coke in his hand. “We’re gonna have so much fun putting on makeup and trying on dresses!” He giggles and ducks out before Bob can respond.

“I guess it’s settled then,” Mikey says, wandering over to sit down.

“I guess so,” Bob replies, disappointed that he couldn’t turn it around. He smiles an apology at Gerard who does the same in return. “Maybe you and me next time, huh?”

Gerard nods, taking a glass.

“Yeah, that’d be nice.”

-------------------------------------

A couple of hours later, after trying to read the paper and failing, Bob gets up and heads back to the bunk area in search of Frank. His conscience is bothering him so much over what Worm had said to him earlier and Gerard’s reaction to Ray wanting to share a room that he has to try and find a way for him to share with Gerard tonight. He finds Frank lying down, eyes closed. He’s listening to something loud on headphones, fingers drumming out the rhythm on the bed sheets. The glass of coke stands abandoned on the floor by his bunk. Bob watches him for minute. Not quite sure how to start the conversation.

“Frank.”

Bob doesn’t expect to get a response because the music coming from the headphones is so loud. He sits on the edge of the bunk. Frank looks up when the bed moves and smiles. Bob waits while Frank slips the headphones around his neck and turns the noise emanating from them off.

“What was that shit?” Bob asks, smiling.

Frank pouts. “Leathermouth.”

“Shit, sorry.” Bob blushes. He hates Leathermouth’s stuff. He’d much rather listen to Britney Spears.

“No offense taken, dude. So what’s up?”

“Room plans,” says Bob.

Frank looks confused. “They’re sorted.”

“Yeah, but I wanted to talk to Gerard tonight,” Bob shifts on the bed, hoping that he can talk Frank into helping him.

Frank breaks out in a grin. “Bob? You’re not?”

It’s Bob’s turn to look confused. “Not what?”

“In love with Gerard?” Frank asks. This is too much, Bob and Ray in love with Gerard. Frank has to be honest; he’s jealous. Okay he’s in a relationship with someone he loves but having two people after you, that’s just not fair.

Bob shakes his head. “No, no. I wanted to ask him about what happened that night.”

Any other answer and Frank wouldn’t have believed Bob in the slightest. “The ‘I fell down the stairs night’?”

“Yeah. Don’t you think it’s odd he’s still not talked about it properly?”

Frank sits up. “Yes. I’ve tried.” He shrugs. “I know Mikey’s tried too but he just won’t talk about it. Every time either of us bring it up, he either just stops talking to me and walks away or he changes the subject. I’m at a total loss at what to do.”

“I thought I might try. Sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone who you don’t know very well about things,” Bob offers.

“But we do know you,” Frank responds. “You’ve been with us, what, a year now. I certainly hope we’re friends.”

Bob smiles. “Yeah, we are. I meant because I haven’t know him for as long as you guys have.”

“He’s got Ray,” Frank says, putting his hand on Bob’s.

That’s what I’m worried about thinks Bob.

“I think Ray will be just what he needs.” Frank smiles. “After tonight I suspect we’ll see a whole new Gerard.”

Bob looks at Frank curiously. “What do you mean?”

“Nothing.” Frank grins and changes the subject. “We must be nearly there.” He climbs off the bunk to peer out of the window. “Yeah, looks like it.”

Bob sighs. He knows he’s not going to get any sleep tonight.
